If your athlete does not qualify for Varsity Finals (May 19th), JV Finals (May 12th) will be the last meet of the year. There are no qualify standards for JV Finals and all athletes are able to compete. The same rules apply as during the regular season regarding the number events they can participate in (4 total with up to 3 running events). However, if your athlete would like to compete at JV Finals, they must have competed in that event during the regular season and can not have attained a Varsity qualifying mark (or been petitioned in to Varsity).
If you are unsure if your athlete has qualified for Varsity or is close to qualifying, please see the top 20 list on the conference website at: http://www.vcytc.org/track/vcytc-meet-1-5-top-20.pdf
There are two ways you can qualify for Varsity.
1) If you obtain a Varsity qualifying mark, you are automatically in. You can see the Varsity Standards at: http://www.vcytc.org/track/VCYTC%202012%20VARSITY%20STANDARDS.pdf
2) You can petition to get into the meet. Each race will have 9 participants. If less than 9 athletes have qualified, the remaining spots will be filled with petitioned athletes. For the 800 (12 athletes), the 1600 (18 athletes) and the 3200 (18 athletes), more than 9 athletes will be permitted to compete. Again, please see the top 20 list on the conference site to see where your athlete ranks. If your athlete is not in the top 15 for their event (18 for the 800 and 20 for the 1660 and 3200), they will very likely not make it into Varsity and will be running in the JV Finals.
I realize this is a bit of a confusing situation (especially for first time Tigres), so if you have any questions please feel free to email (mjhammel@roadrunner.com) or call me (650-678-3681 Matt).
