Bantams – Uniforms tonight!
Just a reminder that uniforms will be available for pick up at practice today (Friday). Please do your best to pick them up today if possible as tomorrow there will be a very small window of time when uniforms will be available and it will be very hectic, with parents needing to be at their volunteer spots and athletes on the field at 7:45.
Bantams – Practice 3/6 and 3/7
Good Evening Bantam families,
As I write this email the thunder is booming! Looking forward to the forecast for tomorrow though, the rain is supposed to be light during our practice time. As of right now, practice is ON for tomorrow (Wednesday), but please plan on picking up your athlete up at 5:30 instead of 6:00. If something changes, I will email you by 3:30.
As a reminder, there is NO specialty practice on Thursday due to a high school meet at Buena. I will update you for the plan for uniform distribution as soon as we have final details.
Thanks so much for all the support,
Kristin Daw

Bantams – Practice meet information
Hi Bantam families,
Our athletes have been training hard, and we are all so excited that the meets are about to begin!
Our practice meet is this Saturday, March 9th. The event options are limited for this meet since the primary focus is training the volunteers. For this meet only, Bantams will be able to participate in 1 field event and 2 running events.
Our only field option for this meet is the Long Jump. Our running choices for this meet are:
4X100
1600
400
100
The event sign up sheets will be on clipboards on the fence on both Monday and Wednesday. Please encourage your athlete to sign themselves up as that will increase their independence in the meets by knowing what events they chose. If your athlete will not attend the practice meet, have them draw a line through their name, and if they want to participate but are not at practice this week, feel free to email me their choices.
The meet is scheduled to begin at 8:30. Please have your athlete arrive by 8:00 and meet us by my bag on the field (near where we warm up). We meet 30 minutes before the start of each meet to get the athletes their stickers, write their numbers on their hands, warm them up, and make last minute adjustments to relay teams.
Your athlete will need sweats (labeled), water, snacks, and sunscreen. I recommend that they have a bag with water and their sweats on the field, but keep their food in the stands with the Bantam EZ-Up. There is no food allowed on the track.
Saturday will be shorter than a typical meet, but it is a great way to get a feel for what happens at our real meets, and for our parent volunteers to learn their jobs.
Also, if they are going to compete in their spikes (this is completely optional), they can start bringing them to practice this week as we will be using them on a limited basis.
Thanks so much!
Kristin (805) 766-7171

Bantams – Specialty practices cancelled 2/21 and 2/22
Hi Bantam Families,
Just a heads up that due to last minute repairs to Buena track, there are no specialty practices today (2/21) or tomorrow (2/22).
I am so impressed with our Bantam athletes this year! They have been dedicated and fun in our team practices, and we have had an impressively strong Bantam presence on specialty days. Please encourage them to run this weekend, and I look forward to seeing them on Monday.

Bantams – Practice Questions
February 7, 2019
Good Morning Bantam families,
I absolutely love the enthusiasm of our athletes, and have already had multiple questions this morning about specialty practices. Our Bantams are ready to work!!
Specialties will start next week, and the available options are listed on the Tigres website under practice schedule.
We had such a fun and productive practice last night!! Hopefully, your athlete had a great introduction to our upcoming season 🙂
See you Monday!
Kristin Daw
Welcome to Bantams 2019
February 4, 2019
Hello Bantam families!
Thank you for attending the parent meeting tonight. Your Bantam coaching staff is really looking forward to our first practice this week.
I wanted to recap the most important information that we covered:
Coaching staff:
Kristin Daw – Head Bantams coach
Jose Betancourt – Assistant Coach
Patrick Brown – Assistant Coach
Jason Daw – Assistant Coach
Lupe Davalos – Assistant Coach
Molly Brennan Dufau – Assistant Coach
Sean Feeney – Assistant Coach
Brian Guevara – Assistant Coach
Leah Kahler – Assistant Coach
Victoria Kightlinger – Assistant Coach
Danny Vasquez – Assistant Coach
Goals for the season:
- Safety
- Fun and an appreciation for the benefits of sports and exercise
- Good Sportsmanship
- Developing your athlete’s abilities and helping them to achieve their goals
Questions and information:
The most efficient way to communicate with me is through email on the website. I am also available for questions after practice. I will email on a regular basis, especially once the meets begin in March. You can text me as well, but I am a teacher and am therefore slow to respond during the school day.
Practice:
Bantams will have team practices on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-6:00 at the Buena High School track.
Parents are welcomed to stay and watch, but only athletes and coaches are allowed on the field. There are no sign in and sign outs this year, but at the end of practice, we will keep our Bantams on the field until they get a visual on their ride home. Please be on time for pickup; a coach must stay with your athlete until you arrive. Athletes will work with specialty coaches on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Preparation for practice:
Please have your athlete dressed and ready to go. Our athletes LOVE their Tigres gear, which means many of them have the same water bottles, bags, and sweatshirts. PLEASE label everything!! If they need a snack before practice, please have it be something easy to digest. They are only allowed water in their water bottles on the track.
Attendance:
We understand that other sports, illness, and injury may conflict with practice. You do not need to email me if your athlete will not attend practice, but I would appreciate knowing if they are injured as well as if they are not going to attend a meet.
Meets:
Bantams will have the option to participate in the following events:
Field – Long Jump, High Jump, and Shot Put
Relay – 4X100 and the 4X400
Distance – 800 and 1600
Sprints – 100, 200, and 400
Athletes can participate in 4 events at each meet with a maximum of 3 running events. The 4X100 counts toward their running event total, but the 4X400 is free 🙂
Some athletes will already know what events they are interested in, while others are still deciding. We are going to encourage them to try everything until they decide which events they like the most. Event sign ups will be on Mondays and Wednesdays by my bag on the field.
Setting up the relay teams for the 4X100 and the 4X400 takes time. Once your athlete selects the relay, they are making a commitment to three other athletes on the team. Relay teams will be created based upon times and attendance. There may be times that I cannot build a full relay team due to numbers, but I will do my best to make certain it is a fair process.
I will send out more information regarding meets as the dates come closer, but for your future planning, the meet schedule on the website is accurate and meets typically go from 8:00 – 3:00ish.
We look forward to greeting former and new athletes on Wednesday!!
See you soon,
Kristin Daw

Bantams – CCC Meet – please read!
Hello Parents –
I am happy to say that it appears that the majority of our athletes will be moving on to the co conference championship meet this weekend at Buena. We are waiting for the official results, and won’t know with any certainty until the results for both conferences’ meets are finalized, and potential drops are figured out. So, if your athlete competed in an event this weekend, please continue to come to practice this week. Practice will be the same days; we will end around 5:45PM.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me. (805-797-5774, bantams@venturatigres.org).

Bantams – Picnic Reminder
Hello Parents!
Just a friendly reminder about today’s End of Season Picnic at the Ventura Unified School District Service Center. Please see the site-wide post for further information and directions. Bantams have been tasked with bringing desserts; pizza will be provided. Time is from noon to 3:00PM. After we eat, Bantams will gather together and share a few words, pass out pictures, remaining ribbons, and a pretty cool gift for the athletes!
Hope to see all of you there today!
Kevin
Bantams – Championship Meet
Hello Parents –
Tomorrow’s Championship meet at Moorpark High will begin at 8:30. The order of events is the same as previous meets, starting with the 3200’s for running events, and Bantam Girls High Jump for field events. This meet should move smooth and rather quickly since there will be only one heat for each event. There are no stickers since the event is pre-seeded. No coaches are allowed on the infield, so athletes must get themselves warmed up and into staging on their own, so it is important to listen to the event calls. If your athlete is running the 4×100 relay, or is an alternate for the 4×100, please make sure they are there by 8:30.
Looking forward to a great day tomorrow!
As always, call/text me with any questions, especially on meet day (797-5774)
Coach Kevin
