Tigres Parents & Athletes – we look forward to starting our meets tomorrow. For all our new Tigres families, though it will be a shorter meet with less events peer age group – it can get more chaotic for the practice meet as we take more time to explain things both to our athletes and to parent volunteers – just dont let this discourage you – we run the practice meet in a manner that forces problems to arise – this allows us to anticipate them and be better equipped to handle them. Preparation and good parent volunteers are what makes the full meet day wrap up in 5-6 hours vs 8+ hours. There is no getting around the fact that running a track meet is work for everyone, but the rewards at the end of each season for our children is well worth the work as we see them achieve personal growth and make personal records each week.
For those still in need of a uniform or if you paid but have not picked up yet, we will have apparel booth available for that as well as other items such as hats t-shirts and sweaters – we are expecting to be setup for that sometime between 7:30-8:00. The apparel will be somewhere close to the track so you wont miss it this time.
For any other info such as when to arrive tomorrow, please refer to your coaches communication and try to follow their requests – due to age groups sizes and age specific needs, coaches may have a different procedure they try to follow and ensure all runners are prepared for the days events ahead of them.
Tomorrow, athletes will just have a small 1″ x 2 5/8 label to wear through the day – when you see them with that sticker, please help to remind them to take care and try to avoid touching it so it stays adhered and as legible as possible through out the day. The following and all subsequent meets they will have a larger label to wear but it also needs to be able to make it throughout he day. Some are going to fall off and its just unavoidable – but the more athletes who can keep them on will help make the meet run more quickly and efficiently and with less mistakes with getting accurate results.
Lastly, you may have questions as the day progresses or be unsure what events are happening and where your child is supposed to be. Your coaches should be explaining where the athletes should go but we will try to explain as much as possible as well. Hearing the announcers calls can be tricky as there are dead spots that the microphone just cant seem to cover – when in doubt just ask around – starting with a coach or another parent. We will also try to introduce Tigres Board Members and other staff so you can always ask them as well.
