Gremlins – meet recap and next week info
Gremlin families,
I hope that this finds you warm and dry! Today’s meet was wet, but seriously SO much fun!! Your athletes are so impressive for their behavior on and off the track! Today’s meet flowed so well thanks to all of the coaches, team parents, and your runners! The listened for their events, came to staging at the right time, and even when we were all soaked we still couldn’t stop smiling and laughing. They ROCK!
For next week: Buena HS has a meet on Thursday so we will be canceling practice for Thursday. That means the only day to sign up for events on the clipboard for this weekend will be Tuesday. If you cannot make it to Tuesday’s practice, just email me the events that your athlete is interested in trying. The Gremlin order of events will be the same as today:
Long Jump
4X100
1600
400
100
800
200
Our meeting time is 8:00 at Moorpark High School on Saturday the 17th. Moorpark has a beautiful facility, and I am sure the kids will have a great time traveling to a new location.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
See you soon,
Kristin
Gremlins – today’s meet
Good Morning families,
Just a quick reminder that we are meeting at 8:00 under the first Tigres EZ-Up in the stands. We will head down to long jump around 8:15ish. Please be on time so we can hand out stickers and write their athlete number on their hands. As you are packing some rain gear for them this morning, perhaps throw in a couple extra pairs of socks as well.
See you soon!
Kristin
Gremlins – Meet sign ups
Hi Gremlin families,
Our first meet is this Saturday, and our athletes have more options this week!
The order of events is as follows:
Long Jump (8:20)
3200 (NOT a Gremlin event)
Hurdles (NOT a Gremlin Event)
4X100
1600
400
100
800
200
4X400 (NOT a Gremlin event)
Gremlins can participate in long jump and up to 3 running events.
Please have your athlete arrive by 8:00 and meet the coaches and team parents under the first canopy in the stands. We need this early arrival before the start of each meet to get the athletes their stickers, write their numbers on their hands, and walk them down to long jump. Gremlins are always first in long jump, and since it is our only option for field events, we typically have lots of athletes participate.
Your athlete will need a sweatshirt (labeled), water, lunch, snacks, sunscreen, and looking forward to the weather for the meet, possibly rain gear! Please take the time to label EVERYTHING! They often leave their warm clothing on the field after long jump, and the labeling makes it so much easier to find!!
Our last event is the 200, and the meet should be finished for Gremlins by 2:30.
Thank you to those that signed up yesterday at practice. The event sign ups will be up again on Thursday. If you are not going to be at practice this week, please email me at gremlins@venturatigres.org and let me know which events your athlete wants to participate in.
Thanks so much!
Kristin
Gremlins – Practice meet recap
Hi Families,
That was chaotic, at times confusing, but still FUN!! Thanks for all of your support while we worked out the kinks. For those families new to Tigres, the transitions were much faster than usual with there being so few choices for each age group team. Our meet next Saturday will be our first “real” meet, and we will all appreciate being able to practice today!
I saw lots of happy faces out there, and it felt great to watch our Gremlins giving it their best! If you have any questions, please never hesitate to ask.
See you soon,
Kristin
Gremlins – Practice meet reminders
Gremlins – Practice meet info
Hi Gremlin families,
Our practice meet is this Saturday! The event options are limited for this meet since the primary focus is training the volunteers. Gremlins will be able to participate in long jump, and 2 running events. Our running choices are the 4X100, 400, and the 100. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2:30. Please have your athlete arrive by 2:00 and meet us under the first canopy in the stands. We meet 30 minutes before the start of each meet to get the athletes their stickers, write their numbers on their hands, and walk them down to long jump. Gremlins are always first in long jump, and since it is our only option for field events, we typically have lots of athletes participate.
Your athlete will need a sweatshirt (labeled), water, snacks, and sunscreen. Saturday will be shorter than a typical meet, but it is a great way to get a feel for what happens at our real meets, and for our parent volunteers to learn their jobs.
The event sign up sheets will be on separate clipboards next to the sign in sheets on the fence on both Tuesday and Thursday. If you are not going to be at practice this week, please email me at gremlins@venturatigres.org and let me know which events your athlete wants to participate in.
Thanks so much!

Gremlins – Practice cancelled 2/15
Hi Gremlin Families,
There is a soccer game tomorrow at Buena. Since we will not have access to the track, I am going to cancel our Gremlin practice. See you on Tuesday!

Hello Gremlin families,
The weather for this week’s practice is projected to be cool and windy; please send your athlete with sweats and a sweatshirt. It was COLD on the track last night!!
See you soon,

Gremlins – 1st week recap
Hello Gremlin families,
Wow! What a fun week the Gremlin coaches had with your athletes! We have a GREAT group of kids out there, and we really appreciate how involved and focused all the kids were during our practices. Just as a reminder, Gremlins only have practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:45. Over the weekend, you can quiz your athlete on our rules by prompting them to see if they can remember what FAST stands for:
Follow directions
Ask questions
Show respect
Together we are a team
and have them teach your our new chant for the end of practice (hint: it’s awesome!) We have lots of motivated kids out there, and if they want to run this weekend, we recommend sprinters go for a 5 minute easy pace run with four 100m sprints, and distance can run 1-1.5 miles if they choose.
We look forward to seeing you all next Tuesday. If there is a need to cancel practice for any reason, I will update our website by 3:00pm on the day of the practice.
Thanks so much for your support,
Kristin Daw 805 766-7171

Michelle Perez – assistant coach

Goals for the season:
- Safety

- Good Sportsmanship
- Developing your athlete’s abilities and helping them to achieve their goals
- Making friends
Questions and information:
The most efficient way to communicate with me is through the website. I am also available for questions after practice, and I will keep our website updated on a regular basis, especially once the meets begin in March. You can text me as well, but I am a teacher and would prefer not to have phone calls/texts during school hours.
Practice:
Gremlins will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:30-5:30ish (as the season progresses practice will increase until 5:45). Practice begins promptly at 4:30 at Buena High School, please have your athlete there a few minutes early to get their name tag and get settled. Our warm-ups are equally important to the workout, and we need your athlete to be there on time.
Parents are welcomed to stay and watch, but only athletes and coaches are allowed on the field. At the end of practice, we will keep our Gremlins on the field until they get a visual on their ride home. There will still be runners on the track when our practice is over so please be mindful of the runner traffic before you call them over to you. We will be teaching our athletes track safety as well.
Sign in and out:
Sign in and out sheets will be on the fence at the track. Please remember to sign in and out! If you do not sign out, be prepared for a phone call from me checking on whether or not you have your athlete with you. Please be on time for pickup; a coach must stay with your athlete until you arrive.
Preparation for practice:
Please have your athlete dressed and ready to go. Our athletes LOVE their Tigres gear, which means many of them have the same water bottles, bags, and sweatshirts. PLEASE label everything!! If they need a snack before practice, please have it be something easy to digest. They are only allowed water in their water bottles on the track.
Attendance:
We understand that other sports, illness, and injury may conflict with practice. You do not need to email me if your athlete will not attend practice, but I would appreciate knowing if they are injured as well as if they are not going to attend a meet.
Meets:
Gremlins will have the option to participate in the following events:
Field – Long Jump (this is the only field event available for Gremlins)
Relay – 4X100 (this is the only relay available for Gremlins)
Distance – 800 and 1600
Sprints – 100, 200, and 400
Athletes can participate in 4 events at each meet with a maximum of 3 running events plus the long jump. Some athletes will already know what events they are interested in, while others are still deciding. We are going to encourage them to try everything until they decide which events they like the most. Event sign ups will be on Thursdays on a separate clipboard on the fence at the track.
Setting up the relay teams for the 4X100 takes time. Once you select the relay, your athlete is making a commitment to three other athletes on the team. Relay teams will be created based upon times and attendance. There may be times that I cannot build a full relay team due to numbers, but I will do my best to make certain it is a fair process.
I will send out more information regarding meets as the dates come closer, but for your future planning, the meet schedule on the website is accurate and meets typically go from 8:00 – 2:30ish.
I think that is all…for now LOL! We look forward to greeting former and new athletes tomorrow!!
See you soon,
Kristin Daw (805) 766-7171
