Gremlin team photo day at practice on Tuesday 4/16

Just got word that we are taking a team photo tomorrow at practice.  Please have your Gremlin in his/her singlet (orange jersey) and black shorts.  Coaches should wear their shirt.  I do not know what time the team photo will be taken but it should be some time during practice.  See you then!

Gremlins back in action this week! Meet on 4/20 at Buena

Hello Gremlin families,

I hope you had a wonderful weekend off.  If you had older Tigres competing in the meet this weekend, you saw some great track and field!  Our team had a great showing – it is quite an event with 15 teams from Southern California.

We have practice as usual this week – signups for our next meet will be on the clipboard at practice starting on Tuesday.  Our Gremlins are back in action this week on Saturday 4/20 at Buena High School.  As usual, please arrive to the Tigres tent at 8am to check-in – if your Gremlin is running the relay make sure they check in with my by 8:30am.  I realize it is a long holiday weekend – please let me know if your Gremlin will miss the meet.  We have 2 more regular season meets (4/20 & 4/27).  The final meet of the season for most Tigres athletes is on 5/4.

See you on Tuesday!

Gremlin Meet 4/6 Recap & Gremlins are off 4/12-13

Hello Gremlin families,

It is hard to believe we only have 3 meets remaining as a team!  The progress our Gremlins are making is just awesome to witness  Last meet, we had perfect conditions lots of PRs on a fast, beautiful track with cool temps – we got many PRs!  Our Gremlins demonstrated great sportsmanship too – one of our teammates told me how another runner asked her while she was getting ready to race, “Are you ready to get beat?”  Our Gremlin promptly told her that was poor sportsmanship and ignored her.  Unfazed, our Gremlin wound up winning the race, leaving it all on the track. In another moment, one of our Gremlins lost his shoe – instead of giving up, he picked it up and ran with it in his hand until the end of the sprint, smiling all the while the stadium cheered him on.  What a fun way to spend a Saturday!

This week we will be pushing our Gremlins hard given that we do not have a meet on Saturday.  Reminder that Gremlins do not participate in the meet this weekend on April 12 & 13 – over 2000 runners from LA and Ventura counties come – coaches are not allowed on the field.  All Gremlins skip this one.

Our remaining meets are on 4/20, 4/27 & 5/4. The meets on 5/11 & 5/18 are for those very few runners who quality within our entire VCYTC.

Let’s have a great week of practice  You’ll hear again from me next week in prep for our 4/20 meet.

Take care,

Autumn

PS Please check the lost and found box & with me – we have gathered quite a lot of Gremlin gear including some in my bag – I would love to off-load it ASAP.  Thank you!

Gremlin Meet Recap and 4/6 Meet Info

Hello Gremlin families,

What an impressive showing for our Gremlins!  It was hot but we had so many PRs and many trying new events.  The sportsmanship I witnessed was outstanding, as well.  And boy, it was nice finally having a home meet!

Reminder that we do have practice this week during VUSD’s spring break.  I will be there on Tuesday.  JJ (Jayden’s dad) will be leading practice on Thursday during my absence – thanks JJ!

Please let me know if your Gremlin will miss the meet at Moorpark High School on 4/6. Signup sheets will be available at both Tues/Thurs practices – you can email me, as well.

Reminder that Gremlins do not compete at the meet on 4/13-14 – enjoy the weekend off!  A few have asked me about the remaining schedule.  For most of our Gremlins their last meet will be on 5/4 at Conference Finals (all can run like a regular meet).  Should anyone have the very top times in all the VCYTC (not just our team), they will advance to the championship meet on 5/11 with the possibility of advancing to the 5/18 meet – I will let you know who that is once that is set (after our last meet in April).

See you all Tuesday!

Gremlin Oxnard Meet Recap & 3/30 Meet at Buena Info

Hello Gremlin families,

What an awesome meet!  We had so many PRs (Personal Records) but most importantly showed great sportsmanship with our Oxnard Star competitors.  Thank you for arriving on time, hanging out in the Gremlin tent area (at our home meets the tent is better placed for viewing along the 100m) and for taking care of your kid’s bathroom breaks 🙂  We learned that we have some fine tuning to do with our long jump marks – we spent considerable time doing that at yesterday’s practice.  Thursday’s practice will focus on a sprint/distant work and relay/strength depending on interest.

The next two meets fall during VUSD spring break (3/30 & 4/6).  Please let me know if your Gremlin will be missing a meet.  We will be having practice as usual during VUSD spring break.

This week’s meet on 3/30 is at home at Buena HS –  hooray!  Sign-ups are on the clipboard at practice. It is a great time to try a new event.  Please arrive to the meet at 8am for stickers & numbering (they are always in the tent) and to be registered as present – by 8:15am the long jumpers will be on the field warming up.  Please check-in with me by 8:30am for the relay or else the spot may be reassigned.

Lastly, the Gremlins do not compete in the meet on April 13-14 so all Gremlins have that weekend off.

See you at practice on Thursday and the meet on Saturday!

Gremlin Fillmore meet recap and no Thursday practice 3/21

Hello Gremlin families,

What a fun and exhausting Saturday!  We were very proud of how our Gremlins carried themselves and performed at their first official meet!  Overall, the meet went great and was a wonderful way to start the season.  Thank you to Team Parent Jennifer Loftus and her family.  Thank you to the assistant coaches who help make everything run.

A couple requests;

  1. Please arrive by 8am to get your child’s sticker and registered.  If your child is doing the long jump, this is absolutely necessary – we start promptly at 8:30am.  If your child is doing the relay, they must have checked in with me by 8:30am or else they may be dropped from the relay team – I need to find replacements ASAP in order to ensure the rest of the relay team can run. Please only sign up for a relay if your child will for sure be at the meet and on time.
  2. Please sit in the Gremlin area in the stands with our team parent – it will be more obvious at our future meets with a Tigres tent marking our area.  If your child is not sitting in the Gremiln area when the coaching staff come looking for him/her to stage for events, we will not go searching high and low for them – we have 46 kids to corral.
  3. Please ensure your child has used the bathroom before we take them onto the field.  It is not the coaches’ responsibility to take anyone to the bathroom – we don’t have enough staff – we need you to take them.  If they tell us they have to go to the bathroom while on the field, we will send them back to the Gremlin tent to find you to take them – he/she may miss an event.

Lastly, Buena HS is hosting another meet so we will not have practice on Thursday 3/21 – I just learned this today.  Please encourage your Gremlin to get in some extra running this week to make up for another missed practice.  Signups will be available at practice on Tuesday – you can email or text me, as well.  Encourage your kiddos to sign up for a new event – it’s always good to try a new one!

See you tomorrow!

Gremlins new info for meet at Fillmore

Hello Gremlin families,

I can’t wait to watch our Gremlins run at our first meet this Saturday!  It should be a lot of fun.  I was just informed of a few things….We have not had a meet at Fillmore HS for some years so this site is new to many of us.  I have heard it is small and therefore we should arrive earlier than usual to get a good spot in the stands and parking.  EZ Up tents are not allowed in the stadium at this venue (this is not typical) so we will not have one for the Gremlins.  We will either sit in the stands (and hopefully not bake in the sun) or we will find a spot just outside the stadium where an EZ Up may be allowed – please stay tuned – it will have to be a race day decision.  You all have my cell if you  need to get a hold of me.

The coaching staff will be wearing their Tigres shirts so if you can spot them.  Reminder that only coaches are allowed on the track and field area.  Please know what your child has signed up to run so that you can help them be ready when the time comes for the coaches to take them down to the track for staging.

Don’t forget sunscreen, hats, water & snacks!

Lastly, please text me if your child signed up for the meet but can no longer attend – it is helpful to know if we need to switch up our relays.

Go Tigres!

Gremlins Practice Meet Recap & Info for 3/16 Meet at Fillmore

Hello Gremlins!

Thank you all for your dedication to the Gremlins in my absence at the Practice Meet.  I am very grateful, especially to Ryan DeLapp and our assistant coaches. I heard it was fun, fast and filled with some comedic moments.  Please know that the regular season meets will have more time in between events making for smoother and longer transitions.  With that said, as parents please help your Gremlin with the following for all meets:  1) they should know what events they signed up to run (we will help wrangle them but it is their responsibility to at the very least know what they are running), and 2) after their race they should get off the field and go back to the Gremlin tent in the stands – this is Gremlin home base – this is where we look for them when it is time to stage for an event and walk them back on the track – if they aren’t there, we won’t go looking for them.

For the 3/16 meet with Heritage Valley at Fillmore High School, our athletes have many more options.

The order of running events is:

3200 (NOT a Gremlin event)

Hurdles (NOT a Gremlin event)

4×100

1600

400

100

800 (NOT a Gremlin event)

200

4×400 (NOT a Gremlin event)

Field events will include:

Long Jump (Gremlins usually go first at 8:30am so be on time!)

High Jump (NOT a Gremlin event)

Shot Put (NOT a Gremlin event)

Gremlins can run in 3 events and do long jump. If an athlete exceeds their event total, they will be disqualified for all of their events for that meet. We will try to monitor this as best we can, but ultimately the athletes themselves need to be aware of their events.

Information for March 16th:  Fillmore High School    555 Central Ave. Fillmore, CA

Arrival time: 8:00 sharp in the Gremlin tent in the stands to get race bibs and organize relays as needed

Start time: 8:30am

Sign-ups will be on the clipboards at practice starting tomorrow. If your Gremlin in not going to attend the meet, please have him/her draw a line through his/her name. Please do not email me after Friday at noon to add your child to the roster for the meet.  If your child signs up for a relay, please make sure they have attended practice to work on this skill – if we don’t have a multiple of 4, we may be unable to run everyone in a relay – please know I will do my best to give everyone a chance.  Additionally, if your child signs up for a relay their other 3 teammates are counting on them to show up – if they can’t make it at the last minute, please let me know ASAP.

Starting with our first official meet next week, you will find the results posted on our website.

Go Gremlins!

See you this week,

Autumn
