Thousand Oaks is one of the biggest clubs and has been a very good club over the years, so it was great to see how our Midgets stacked up. What amazing performances all across the board. It is really nice to see how the athletes are developing bonds with each other and supporting each other when they perform great or being there for them when they might be disappointed. Please be sure to start following your athletes on athletic.net to see how they progress over the season. It’s only been two meets, but we have already had some unbelievable improvements.
A few things to work on:
We’re getting better at learning the order of events and the timing of a meet, but we’ll keep talking with the athletes about finding teammates who are doing the same events to warm up with and knowing when to head to staging.
Sign ups have been GREATLY improved from the first meet – thank you all!!! Let’s keep getting better at signing up for events as early in the week as possible. I’ll be sending out a separate post regarding relay sign ups, but I really appreciate the effort to let the athletes take responsibility for their event sign ups.
Be sure to dress for the weather. Hot or cold, being out in the weather can make a long day and really hurt performance. Please be sure to pack extra clothes when it’s cool and stay out of the sun when it’s warm – be prepared for changing conditions as well.
This week, we are facing the Oxnard Stars at Oxnard High School. Let’s work on trying some new events!
Please take advantage of the speciality practices on Tues/Thurs/Fri. I know everyone has busy schedules with competing priorities, but athletes have an opportunity five days a week to practice. It’s a great chance to try something new and every day there is something offered that will make you a better track athlete. Hope to see as many of you out there as possible!
