Another great meet for the Midget teams.  Each week we are seeing huge improvements in performances and big steps in growing as a team and learning the process of what goes on at meets.  We had way fewer questions about the order of events, much better team work getting athletes ready for events by warming up and heading to staging as a team and really great support shown by teammates – cheering each other on.  The results have been uploaded to athletic.net where you can also see the top performance lists.

Tigres has been doing a really great job overall, limiting any over eventing violations, but just a reminder that each athlete is allowed a maximum of 4 total events, with a maximum of 3 of those events being running events.  If an athlete does participate in too many events, all of those marks will be marked as disqualified.  The 4×400 relay does not count as an event, so everyone is welcome to participate in our favorite event!

We have two event sign up sheets that will be out this week.

  1. We are running against the Moorpark Striders at Moorpark High School this weekend.  They typically run a great meet and have a fantastic facility (this is where the Conference Championships are held at the end of the season).  Please try to sign up at practice as early in the week as possible.  Every week has been an improvement with fewer athletes forgetting to sign up for their events – keep it up!
  2. There will be a separate sign up sheet for the Southern California Youth Invitational that takes place on April 8th and 9th at Ventura High School.  This is a GREAT event that really gives our athletes the opportunity to see what a big invitational is like (great experience to prepare for High School Track and Field).  There will be up to 2,000 athletes at this meet!  This is NOT for just the elite, but is a great chance for all of our athletes to compete against other athletes near their abilities.  There are tons of heats and athletes are seeded by their previous performances, making for some really great competition.  Please look closely at the events to know what days they are offered and to get an understanding of when they are run.  The event limits are different – athletes are allowed 3 total events, with a maximum of 2 INDIVIDUAL events (this is running or field events, not relays) and 1 RELAY.  More information will be posted regarding this meet on the Tigres website.  THIS IS A MEET THAT IS PRE-SEEDED SO ATHLETES NEED TO SIGN UP IN ADVANCE, NOT ON MEET DAY.

Since there are two sign up sheets, please be careful to select the correct sign up sheet when choosing events.  We will be marking the Southern California Youth Invitational sign up sheets with highlighted borders to make sure they stand out.  We will spend time explaining the different meets and sign up sheets at both Monday and Wednesday team practices, but please be sure to ask your athletes if they have signed up for BOTH meets.  Entries for the Southern California Youth Invitational are due by Monday of next week.

I know this is a lot of information, so if you have any questions, please email midgets@venturatigres.org or call 650-678-3681.
