Upcoming week and Meet 4/1
Hi 12 U families.
What a great meet at Moorpark, I can’t believe how well all our athlete did. Lots of personal records!!
Our next meet is a home meet this Saturday April 1st. We are hosting the Thousand Oaks flyers.
If your Athlete is interested in running a relay, please have them sign up on Monday. It is difficult to make teams when we get their sign up later in the week.
NO Practice on Thursday, March 30th. Buena is hosting Ventura HS for a home track meet. If your athlete is available have them come cheer for the athletes at the meet.
For parent volunteers, this Saturday will be your third of four meet obligations. Please know that you must fulfill all four shifts to earn priority registration for next season.
Our waitlist is long this year, and we really want all our athletes to be able to earn that priority status to ensure their spot on the team.
If you have questions about volunteering, please contact Jeremy Patelzick at tigres.ventura@gmail.com
In addition, there is NO practice on 4/3-4/8 over Spring Break, but next weekend we will be sending out suggested workouts to keep our kids focused on their goals.
Once they are official, results from today’s meet will be on our website under the results section. For now, you can find them at http://royalresults.com/liveresults/
Please feel free to reach out with your questions,
Thanks

NO practice on Tuesday 3/14
Due to the heavy rain in the forecast, we are canceling specialty practice today. The events planned (high jump, hurdles, relay) wouldn’t be safe with the amount of rain that we are anticipating.
Stay dry and we will see your athletes tomorrow,
First Regular Meet Tomorrow at Buena
Our first regular meet of the season is tomorrow Saturday, March 11
as Ventura Tigres host the Heritage Valley Blazers at Buena High School.
Meet starts at 8:30 am. Check-in at 7:45 am.
Rain or Shine (Be ready for rain!)
The track is designed for all weather so the meet will proceed in the rain.
If you have any questions call or text

Added Field Events for Tomorrow
There has been a change to the meet tomorrow.
I was just informed that our 12U athletes can compete tomorrow in the long jump, high jump as well as shot put.
If your Athlete would like to change or add one of these field events have them let the coaches know in the morning and we will get them signed up.
Some last-minute reminders:
- Please arrive at 7:45 (ESPECIALLY if your athlete is doing hurdles)
- Your athlete will need their uniform, black shorts, sweats (labeled), running shoes, spikes (if they use them), water, snacks, and sunscreen.
- No food or drinks (other than water) are allowed on the field
- PLEASE label EVERYTHING
If you were not able to pick up your uniform yet, they will be ready tomorrow from 7:30-7:45 ONLY. This window is small so please be prompt.
As this is our first meet, please be patient as we work out the kinks, and everyone learns their role. I told the kids all week, the purpose of this meet is to train their parents.
All of the coaches are really looking forward to seeing our athletes out on the track in their orange and black!
Thanks

12U Practice Meet information!
Hi 12U families,
Our athletes have been training hard, and we are all so excited that the meets are about to begin!
If your athletes goal worksheet has not been turned in, please have them turn it in this week. Some were completed and sent home again because the goals were not measurable. For example, a goal of I would like to run faster is not measurable. A goal of I would like to get a Personal Record at least 3 times this season is measurable.
Our practice meet is this Saturday, March 4th at Buena High School. The event options are limited for this meet since the primary focus is training the volunteers. For this meet only, 12U will be able to participate in 1 field event and 2 running events.
Our field option for this meet is Shot Put. Athletes must pre-qualify to compete in Shot Put and may attempt to do so at specialty practices on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays.
Our running choices for this meet are:
- Hurdles (pre-qualification at specialty practice required)
- 4X100 Relay
- 800
- 200
- 4X400 (This is a “free” event that does not count towards their total running events. Tigres is known for our numerous 4×400 teams, and we want to keep this fun tradition alive!)
The event sign-up sheets will be on clipboards by the Coach’s bag on both Monday and Wednesday. We would like your athletes to sign themselves up for their events to increase their independence at the meets by knowing what events they chose. If your athlete will not attend the practice meet, we’ll ask them to draw a line through their name. If they plan to participate but are not at practice this week, feel free to email me their choices by Wednesday evening.
The meet is scheduled to begin at 8:30. Please have your athlete arrive by 7:45 and meet us by the Coaches bag on the field (near where we warm-up). We meet 45 minutes before the start of each Meet to get the athletes their stickers, warm them up, and make last-minute adjustments to relay teams.
We expect that the athletes will be independent at the meets. This means that they are nearby coaches and are ready to run when called for their event. Each athlete will receive a list of their events on their sticker at check-in. Coaches will not be able to remind athletes throughout the meet of their schedule. Coaches will also not always be able to search for athletes who are not nearby when they are called to compete. If an athlete misses their race, they will not be rescheduled for a later heat.
Athletes must wear their Tigres Singlet to all meets and during races.
If you have not had a chance to pick up a uniform, they will be available Saturday morning before 7:45. However, there will be a small window on Saturday morning, so please do your best to be on time.
In addition, athletes must wear black running shorts (Tigres issued or otherwise). Your athlete may wish to come to the meet wearing sweats (labeled) on top of their Tigres singlet and running shorts. The mornings can be very cold, so it is important that our athletes stay warm. In addition, they should bring their own water, snacks, and sunscreen. PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING! I recommend that they bring a bag to hold their water, sunscreen and sweats on the field. Since food is not allowed out on the track, athletes may bring another bag with snacks (labeled with their name) that can be placed under the 12U EZ-Up in the stands.
Saturday will be shorter than a typical meet, but it is a great way to get a feel for what happens at our real meets, and for our parent volunteers to learn their jobs. The goal of this meet is to train our volunteers in their positions, so the meet runs smoothly when we host another team. Things will NOT run smoothly; there will be delays and possibly a lot of standing around. Please be patient!
Thanks!

12U Tigres – Great First Practice!!! Schedule for Next Week.
Hi Families,
Unfortunately, due to the VUSD holiday on the 13th, our next team practice is on Wednesday the 15th. The good news is that specialties will start next week! The available options are listed on the Tigres website under practice schedule and also listed below for your convenience. Remember, your athlete can come to both specialty days or none, it depends completely on their schedule and desire to try some of the events (i.e. shot put, hurdles, long jump, and high jump) that they will not experience during our team workouts.
As an FYI, we gave them the athlete code of conduct and goal setting worksheet and asked for them to bring these back to us on Wednesday. Hopefully, your athlete had a great time tonight and a good introduction to our upcoming season
We will send out a suggested workout in lieu of Monday’s normal practice in the next couple of days.
Please reach out with any questions!

Hello, 12U families!
Looking forward to our first practice tomorrow, Wednesday, February 8th at 4:30 pm at Buena High Track.
Below is some information for the upcoming season.
Goals for the season:
- Safety
- Fun and an appreciation for the benefits of sports and exercise
- Good Sportsmanship
- Developing your athlete’s abilities and helping them to achieve their goals.
Questions and information:
The most efficient way to communicate with me is through email on the website. I am also available for questions after practice. I will email regularly, especially once the meets begin in March. You can text me as well.
Practice:
12U will have team practices on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-6:00 at the Buena High School track.
Parents are welcome to stay and watch, but only athletes and coaches are allowed on the field. Please be on time for pickup; a coach must stay with your athlete until you arrive.
Athletes will work with specialty coaches on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Preparation for practice:
Please have your athlete dressed and ready to go. They will need a bag to carry their belongings:
- Sweatshirt and bottoms
- Small towel (dish towel size)
- Water bottle (NO food/Gatorade on the track – water only)
- Spikes (if they choose to use them)
- Good Running Shoes
A lot of athletes will have similar gear, which means many have the same water bottles, bags, and sweatshirts. PLEASE label everything!!
Attendance:
We understand that other sports, illnesses, and injuries may conflict with practice. You do not need to email me if your athlete does not attend practice; but I would appreciate knowing if they are injured and if they are not going to attend a meet. Please do not send them to practice if they are injured.
Meets:
12U athletes can participate in all of the events:
Field – Hurdles, Long Jump, High Jump, and Shot Put
Relay – 4X100 and the 4X400
Distance – 3200, 1600, and 800
Sprints – 100, 200, and 400
12U Athletes can participate in 4 events at each meet with a maximum of 3 running events. The 4X100 counts toward their running event total, but the 4X400 is free
Some athletes know what events they are interested in, while others are still deciding. We will encourage them to try everything until they decide which events they like the most. Event sign-ups will be on Mondays and Wednesdays by my bag on the field.
Setting up the relay teams for the 4X100 and the 4X400 takes time. Once your athlete selects the relay, they commit to three other team athletes. Relay teams will be created based on times and attendance. Sometimes, we cannot build a full relay team due to numbers, but we will do our best to ensure it is a fair process.
I will send out more information regarding meets as the dates come closer. However, for future planning, the meet schedule on the website is accurate.
We look forward to greeting former and new athletes tomorrow!!
See you soon,
Jim Montgomery

12U Team Picnic and Gifts
Team!
How is it that we are already concluding our 2022 track season?! Coach Kat and I both hope that you all can make it to the team picnic this Sunday at the Buena Quad to celebrate a fun and successful season. We both have seen growth in lots of the runners in many ways. Friendships made, PR’s set, new races tried, overcoming self doubt…. it’s been so good!
Our wonderful coaching team will be with us on Sunday to say goodbye and to give your runners ribbons and a gift. The Tigres program will be providing pizza (who doesn’t like pizza) and the attendees are bringing side dishes. Our assigned side dish is SALAD. Please bring what you can. The program suggests enough for 12 with serving utensils but no one cares if you bring more or less. Sunday is about having fun and sending the kids off to their action packed summers. Please make sure to bring a blanket or chairs if you wish.
If you are unable to make the picnic please reach out. We would like all of the athletes to receive their end of season gift.
Cheers!
