YOUTH/INTERMEDIATE – LAST REMINDER – Southern California Youth Invitational Sign Up
Entries for the Southern California Youth Invitational are due this evening. This meet does require advanced sign ups. If athletes are not signed up tonight, they will not be able to participate this weekend. If athletes are out of town or unable to attend practice today to sign up, please email events to youth@venturatigres.org or call/text 650-678-3681.
This meet is open to all Tigres (other than Gremlins) and is a great experience. There will be 12 teams participating and many of our athletes have performed extremely well at this meet in past years. Regardless of ability, athletes will have an opportunity to compete against athletes near their ability which typically brings out the best. It is also a great event from the perspective of seeing what a big invitational is like. We hope as many of our athletes as possible can compete this weekend!
YOUTH/INTERMEDIATE – Videos of the Week (Thousand Oaks Meet)

YOUTH/INTERMEDIATE – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! Thousand Oaks Meet Recap and Spring Break Week
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE POST CAREFULLY!!!
First meet with warm weather (tough for distance runners) and a bit of a head wind (tough on sprinters) still saw some more great performances from the team. There were some really gutsy performances across all of the events. There are only 3 more meets until the Championship season is underway, so the time for PR’s and qualifying is here!
On that note, it is Spring break, but we will be having practices according to the normal schedule. We understand many families have plans and won’t be able to make practices, but we STRONGLY suggest not taking an entire week away from working out. The workout plan is on the Youth/Intermediate team page, so everyone should be able to see what we would be doing in practice. Please make the effort to get in workouts that you can’t make it to practice for. If anyone needs help finding the plan or understanding the workout, please reach out to me and I would be happy to help explain it and provide the paces.
Also, the Southern California Youth Invitational is this coming weekend. Information can be found on the Tigres homepage along with the meet flyer which has the event schedule. It is a 2 day meet, so please pay attention to which events athletes sign up for and which day they take place. EVENT ENTRIES ARE DUE WEDNESDAY BY END OF PRACTICE!!! This is a pre seeded meet, so there are no sign ups on the day of the event. If you are unable to make it to practice to sign up, please email (youth@venturatigres.org) or call/text 650-678-3681.
YOUTH/INTERMEDIATE – Saturday’s meet vs Thousand Oaks Flyers (1:00 @ Westlake High School)
Great meet last week as the PR’s continue to pile up. Check out athletic.net to see how the athletes are doing and how they stack up against the rest of the VCYTC.
This week should be a great meet, with the late start (1:00 pm), a beautiful day forecasted and a great facility at Westlake High School.
Although the meet start time is later, we will follow the same order of events. So, that means the 4×100’s need to be ON THE FIELD no later than 1:15.
Also, we will be talking about this with the team as well, but for the championship meets at the end of the season, athletes need to have competed in an event prior, in order to allow them to do that event in either the league finals (all are invited) or the conference championship (must qualify based on performance). So, it’s time to branch out and give new events a try.
Can’t wait to see how the team does this weekend, especially the 4×400 which should be under the lights just like a high school meet!

YOUTH/INTERMEDIATE – Meet at Oxnard Tomorrow
Tomorrow’s meet is at Oxnard High Schoo and starts at the normal time (8:30).
A few reminders:
- If you are participating in the 4×100 relay, you need to be on the field by 8:45 at the latest.
- The weather should be great, but please remember to bring some warmer clothes and make sure they are labeled.
- The order of events is the same as all other meets, but please pay attention to not only the calls, but what event is currently taking place to know when you will be competing.
We’re looking forward to a great meet! If you have any question, please email youth@venturatigres.org or call/text 650-678-3681.
YOUTH/INTERMEDIATE – Practice is ON!!! Please read
Despite the soggy conditions, the Youth/Intermediate team is going to brave the conditions! We’re going to meet under the overhang by the snack bar, get hustling and be done with our workout by 5:30. Please be ready to pick up athletes at 5:30.
We understand if you want to keep athletes home, but for those of you who would like to get in a Wednesday workout, we’ll be there!

YOUTH/INTERMEDIATE – Moorpark Meet Recap and Upcoming Week
Not every meet is going to be a PR fest like the last one, but our meet at Moorpark still saw some great results. We had some really nice weather and even got a timely tail wind for the 100’s that picked up even more to help produce some great times in the 200’s. It was a really solid all around performance for our Youth/Intermediate teams.
It was also great to see some of our team helping teammates who struggled (some really nice kids on this team!). We had the 4×4 teams willing to pitch in picking up trash at the end of the meet (what a reward :)) and lots of great examples of leaders getting athletes warmed ups for events.
This week, we are hoping to get in a full week of practice, but weather may be an issue. We are going to do our best to practice on Wednesday, regardless of rain, so keep your eyes out for any cancelation announcements.
The Oxnard Stars are hosting us this Saturday – we’re looking forward to another great meet!
YOUTH/INTERMEDIATE – Meet at Moorpark on Saturday!
Tomorrow we are competing against the Moorpark Striders at Moorpark High School. Historically, the Striders have put on really well run meets and the stadium is probably the best in Ventura County. Let’s remember to be great guests and treat the volunteers and competitors with respect.
A few reminders about the meet:
The meet starts at 8:30 and follows the same order of events as listed on our website.
If you are planning on running the 4×100 relay, you need to be ON THE FIELD AT 8:45!!!
It is going to be a little chilly, so please remember to bring your warm clothes (label everything) and keep them on until just prior to competing (you should be wearing them in staging).
Hurdles should report to the field to begin their warm up at 8:15.
